New Year New Decor? 5 Interior Trends to Try in 2019!
New Year, new decor and all that! The start of a new year is a good enough excuse to explore new designs and home trends – not that we need any encouragement to experiment with our interior schemes!
Every year sees new themes emerging for interiors; in 2018 we saw enormous popularity for tropical everything, jewel tones and brick effect wallpaper! So what awaits your home in 2019? Here are five interior trends worth a try!
Nude Colours & Neutrals.
Grey, the go-to neutral of recent years will remain popular but warm earthy neutrals and barely there shades are coming into the spotlight in 2019. Don’t think miserable Magnolia and boring Beige though…. The new neutrals of Oatmeal, Linen and Caramel are much more inviting! Dulux Colour of the Year for 2019 is ‘Spiced Honey’ which fits in beautifully with this trend.
Dramatic Black Kitchens.
Follow the Interior designers lead and turn to the dark side. The trend for darker, moodier kitchens is going mainstream in 2019. A black kitchen doesn’t necessarily mean ultra-modern, a black or dark grey shaker kitchen works just as well as a sleek slab style.
We suspect that this will be a trend that is set to stick around for some time… but if you’re not convinced you could opt for a dark worktop or accessories to test the waters before you brave a full change. Bold splashbacks are also set to be big this coming year so maybe that’s a good place to start? Our Kitchenwalls wallpaper splashbacks are a low risk way to try this trend!
Ocean life.
The environment is more of a hot topic than ever. At the forefront of our minds is the damage being done to our planet and especially our oceans and this fixation is filtering though into our homes. We’re not talking nautical themes here, think ‘under the sea’ greens and blues, scalloped edges and a nod to aquatic life. This trend ties in perfectly with Pantone's Colour of the year for 2019 – Living Coral.
Wallpaper.
For quite a long time wallpaper fell out of fashion and paint was seen as the way to go. Recently searches for ‘bold wallpaper’ on Pinterest have rocketed by over 400%! Wallpaper has made a huge comeback in the past couple of years. You can now get wallpaper depicting everything from brick walls and tin tiles to bold florals and funky geometric patterns. From one feature wall to a whole room – wallpaper can instantly transform a space. Look out of wallpapered ceilings – they are becoming more and more popular and filtering through into the mainstream. They definitely bring the wow factor to your interior design!
Maximalism.
This is certainly not a trend for shrinking violets! To get on board with the Maximalism look you need to forget muted colours and clean lines, throw out the plain and bring in some pattern… and lots of it! Vibrant colours, artfully arranged clutter and wild wallpapers create a look of controlled chaos! Maximalism is all about great textures, mismatched furniture and not agreeing at all with ‘Less is more’!
